An outstanding German pianist took the First Prize in the Sixth London International Piano Competition at the Grand Final in the Royal Festival Hall. Herbert Schuch, 25,
performed the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 5 ‘Emperor’ and won the top prize of £14,000,
a number of prestigious concert and recital engagements as well as a CD recording contract with Naxos.
Second prize of £10,000 went to the French pianist Jean-Frederic Neuburger, 18, who played the
Liszt Concerto No. 2, and Jayson Gillham, 18, from Australia, playing the Liszt Concerto No. 1 collected
the Third prize of £7,000.
