Brilliant Winners at the 6th London International Piano Competition 2005

2005 RESULTS

An outstanding German pianist took the First Prize in the Sixth London International Piano Competition at the Grand Final in the Royal Festival Hall.
Herbert Schuch, 25, performed the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 5 ‘Emperor’ and won the top prize of £14,000, a number of prestigious concert and recital engagements as well as a CD recording contract with Naxos.
Second prize of £10,000 went to the French pianist Jean-Frederic Neuburger, 18, who played the Liszt Concerto No. 2, and Jayson Gillham, 18, from Australia, playing the Liszt Concerto No. 1 collected the Third prize of £7,000.

Three Educational Awards were made to pianists, under 22 years, who were judged to show outstanding promise. This financial help is for study in an international conservatoire of their choice, participation in master classes or for additional private tuition. This educational programme is unmatched by any other international competition. The London International Piano Competition Educational Awards 2005 went to to Jue Wang (aged 21) from China, Laszlo Borbely (aged 21) from Hungary and Riyad Nicolas (aged 16) from Syria.

Each of the finalists played with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Sian Edwards. The evening was presented by Timothy West CBE and attended by HRH The Earl of Wessex.
