Herbert Schuch
Herbert Schuch was born in Temesvar, Romania in 1979 and began his piano studies at the age of six with Prof. Maria Bodo. In 1988 he moved to Germany, and since the age of twelve he has studied with Prof. Karlheinz Kammerling at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Schuch has won numerous first prizes in the German National competition “Jugend musiziert” in the years 1992, ‘94 and ’96 as well as the special prize for the best performance of a Beethoven sonata. On the international level, he won first prizes at the International Piano Competition in Usti nad Labem (Czech Republic) in 1993 and the European Music Competition for Youth in Dublin (1996) where he also got the special prize for the best performance of a contemporary work.
The same year Herbert Schuch made his debut at the Gasteig in Munich, Klaus Bennert wrote of him in the Suddeutsche Zeitung “One could hear an excellent musician who combines structural thinking with deep feeling… the young man seems to have the capacity for a serious and great career…”
After being a finalist in the International Bach Competition in Leipzig (2002) and the Clara Haskil Competition (2003), Schuch won First Prize in the prestigious Alessandro Casagrande Competition in Italy, where he also got the special prize of the critics.
Herbert Schuch has played with such orchestras as the Georgian Chamber Orchestra, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Nuremburger Sinfoniker and the Chamber Orchestra of Lausanne. As a prize-winner at the International Summer Academy in Salzburg 2003 he played at the Salzburger Festspiele 2003 and the Mozart-week 2004, playing with Camerata de Lausanne under the direction of Pierre Amoyal.
Besides his solo appearances, Herbert also takes a great interest in chamber music. He made his debuts at the Herkulessaal in Munich and the Schwetzingen festival together with the violinist Julia Fischer and he plays regularly with the cellist Julius Berger and violinist Mirijam Contzen.
